Crystal Relic 002 by Daniel Arsham

Daniel Arsham revists the golden age of handheld gaming with his new Crystal Relic 002 limited-edition release.  The clear cast resin art object is a high-fidelity, to-scale replica of the original device, down to the removable plumber platformer cartridge that slots into the top. All the expected elements and text (minus the ‘N’)are present, down to the support phone number on the bottom rear. 002 is cast in clear resin with a frosted-glass effect. The bubbles within the cast add to the sense of an unearthed object rather than a pristine item stored in a vault

The new edition follows Crystal Relic 001 (April 2019), a replica of the baseball cap of the Bronx-based, NY professional team. As Arsham’s statement about 001 explains, the concept ‘is inspired by 18th 18th century Archaeological objects made of crystal…’ The Crystal Relics are part of the artist’s exploration of modern, often commonplace objects as relics unearthed by future generations.

An edition of 500 pieces, Crystal Relic 002 will be available on Friday (1.17) at 9 AM PST from the artist’s web shop. Pricing has not yet been announced.
