Japanese artist/toy designer Kaijin can do it all, draw, sculpt and cast figures. For Design Festa #33 (5.14 – 5.15) in Tokyo he’s created a very limited run of hand-done ‘Tartar Maintenance’ Space Racer figures. Ready with a wrench, these special figures are patterned after the production Tartar Space Racer figures.
Unlike the production Space Racer figures which are one piece, the new hand-done sets include the rider/mechanic and a separate racer. All of it created from scratch by hand. Relying on machine translation, it appears five sets will be available for sale at the upcoming DesignFesta for 16,500 yen / set (~ $202). While these will be hard to come by for collectors in the States, they’re worth knowing about if for no other reason than to recognize the talent at hand. And if you’re a die hard collector, time to ring up your agent in Japan.
