TMNT Firsts: Peter Laird from ISH

Previous Next

ISH goes back to TMNT’s roots with the new officially-licensed TMNT Firsts: Peter Laird vinyl art toy. Back in 1983, Kevin Eastman shared a Ninja Turtle drawing with Peter Laird as a joke. Laird then created his own take on Eastman’s First Turtle. These first drawings served as the very beginning of the epic TMNT franchise.

The Laird figure is a spot-on 3D translation of his first turtle drawing. Laird’s design stays closer to real-life turtles than Eastman’s with a more natural head shape. It’s the perfect companion to the OG First Turtle figure—based on Eastman’s first drawing— which Mondo released back in 2015. The team behind the first figure carries over to this second figure from ISH founder Justin Ishmael to sculptor Matthew Black. In addition, the famed Four Horsemen and Double G Toys worked on the color design and outputs.

The TMNT Firsts: Peter Laird vinyl art toy (~7″) will be available for pre-order in four different editions on Wednesday (5.10) @ 8 AM PDT from Bottleneck Gallery : an OG black/white version (500 pcs $75), a color edition with orange mask (500 pcs, $75), a color edition with red mask (500 pcs, $75) and a deluxe black/white edition (300 pcs, $100) with two alternate heads, white + orange mask and white + red mask, plus a print of Laird’s drawing. Be sure to check out Pixel Dan’s first look at the Laird figure (below) complete with a history of the project and hands-on with prototypes of the four versions.
