Joe Ledbetter and Disney released the brand-new Mickey & Friends vinyl art toys at this past weekend’s D23 convention in Anaheim with a black/white vintage-style edition. The series features five timeless Disney characters: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy & Pluto.
Debuting in a vintage black and white vintage edition, JLed’s designs celebrate the animated personalities of the classic characters. From Goofy’s less than graceful stroll (banana peel!) to Donald’s scowl, each character comes to life, as if captured between motion-filled frames. A perfect choice for the project, Ledbetter’s heavy black outlines flow seamlessly into this celebration of Walt Disney’s creations. Series sculptors Dave Bondi and Damian Szeibert have done an excellent job of translating Joe’s concepts and drawings into fully-realized figures.
An edition of 1000, the initial stock of the black and white Mickey and Friends vinyl art toys (4-6″, $39.99) sold out at D23. A second release is planned for a Fall event — more as it breaks.
