Michael Lau and Crazysmiles are about to release a 6” vinyl version of Gardener 108, Zex. As many of you know, Zex is based on bad boy photographer Terry Richardson who incidentally opened his latest solo in LA last weekend. The Zex characterdebuted at the Lau and Richardson’s joint ‘07 exhibit ‘From Rio to Hongkong’, held at the Brave Gallery in HK, in several forms including a provactive large-format sculpture and several drawings. In 2010, Zex made the jump to toys with the reveal of the 12” Gardener #108 as part of Michael Lau’s milestone 10th show in LA.
Now comes the first production Zex complete with Terry’s trademarks including his glasses and celebrated endowment. Limited to 300 pieces, the 6” vinyl comes with multiple sets of hands (a Gardener tradition), necklace accessory and “Penxx” (presumably not removable…). With the crossover appeal, Zex is likely to go quickly when it goes on sale for 699 hkd (~ $90) from March 1st through the 11th directly from crazysmiles.com.
The ugliest shit I ever seen, good job.
