LA artist Martin Hsu  opened  his ‘Dragon Boy’ solo @ Dragatomi in SacTown this past Saturday (1.14).  The show features a series of  new cel vinyl on paper paintings of Dragon Boy and Blackie, his kirin dog.  In addition to the original artwork, Martin and sculptor Vin Teng officially unveiled the completed sculpt for the upcoming Dragon Boy Vinyl (due for SDCC ‘12).

Martin sent along a few shots from the opening as well as a few environmental shots of Dragon Boy from key angles.  The detailed sculpt is a strong translation of the whimsical character to 3D.  Sculptor Vin Teng (above, left) has made full use of the medium by sculpting details throughout the dragon suit (eyes, nose, flames, scales and more).  Toys like Dragon Boy showcase the often unfulfilled potential of the vinyl art toy medium.

Be sure to check out Martin’s OG Dragon Boy paintings over on his site (including purchase links).
