Artist couple Shin Tanaka and Naoko Shimojo (Danke Schoen) will be making the trip from Japan to San Francisco for the opening of their Love Movement show on Saturday December 11th @ the Superfrog Gallery in the New People Building in San Francisco.  Co-organizer Jeremy Brautman is using Kickstarter to reach out to the toy community to help raise $3000 to cover the artists travel  costs (airfare, accommodations, etc.).  As added incentive to donate and as a thank you, the artists have created several reward levels based on donation amount. Examples include download access for the Danke Boy and Schoen Girl paper toys ($10, above), Love Movement Tee ($50), your name painted on the gallery wall ($100), an original 4” x 6” ink drawing by Sergey Safonov, and a custom vinyl Danke Schoen bear by Shin Tanaka ($300).  Each pledge level includes all the perks of the lower levels as well.

Finally, we’re curious as to what you think about this innovative approach to show sponsorship.  While we’re so accustomed to corporate sponsorship, this grass roots approach is certainly an exciting alternative.  Post a comment and let us know your thoughts.
