Dehara Yukinori is making the journey to LA from his native Japan and he’s bringing new hand-made and hand-painted clay figures with him. Opening on Saturday, June 5th 2010, ‘The Jizo’ show centers around the Buddhist divine protector of the departed souls of children, babies and unborn fetuses. Statues of Jizo, “Japanese stone angels” according to the artist, are often found in Japanese cemeteries or roadsides. Imbued with their own personality and individuality, each of Dehara’s original clay figures are not to be missed. Nor is the opportunity to meet him at the opening.
