T9G creates some of the most unusual and twisted vinyl figures out there. Beyond his clever and eclectic aesthetic, he’s also done an excellent job of branding his toys as high-end lifestyle items with key moves including his collaborations with trendy spots such as Loveless in Aoyama.
His latest round of figure releases done in conjunction with Tim Biskup and intheyellow shows his attention to retail positioning and marketing. Rather than dropping the toys at a toy store, the trio of black/pink figures will be available at Tokyo’s Tokyo in the Haneda Airport, a carefully curated editorial store created by Yoshitaka Haba.
What’s on tap ? Let’s start with the very first T9G Helper (7875 yen) ! This sculpt is off-the hook combining Biskup’s signature character with T9G’s creepy aesthetic – check out the singular doll eye under the removable outer head. T9G uses the same innocent/creepy juxtaposition with the removable head concept for his Kotaro Mask (7875 yen) – the latest incarnation of his recurring character.
