FX International ‘09 – Project Vinyl (4.17 – 4.19)

01

FX International marks its historic twentieth anniversary with  their ‘09 show slated for this weekend (4.17 – 4.19.09) in Orlando, Florida.  This year’s schedule  combines  excellent Sci-Fi programming with a loaded Project Vinyl event. Vinyl Pulse will be on hand blogging live to bring you an up-close look at the show.

As the convention’s name suggests, FX features the top names in the Sci-Fi universe. This year’s invited guests include the one and only Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock), James Marsters (Spike from Buffy & Angel), Jonathan Frakes (William Riker from ST:TNG), and many others.

For the third straight year, FX International will present Project Vinyl showcasing art toys to a broad audience.  Working with MINDstyle and Mezco, this year’s offerings will be the best yet by far.  Looking to bring the very best creative talents to Florida, Project Vinyl has invited five guest artists  — Ron English, Buff Monster, Angry Woebots, Peekaboo Monster, and kaNO to show off their skills in live painting sessions (including on female models), participate in an art toy panel, and sign some very special figures.

Project Vinyl will also host the first US stop of Disney’s Stitch Experiment 626 Project Custom Art Tour featuring 50+ custom stitches by some of today’s hottest artists, designers and illustrators.   The debut Hong Kong tour stop injected some much needed excitement in to the concept of custom toy exhibitions with what many felt was one of the strongest group of customs in recent memory.  The Orlando tour stop will add many excellent new pieces to the mix from talents such as Ron English (above), Chris Ryniak, Mad Barbarians, Touma and more.

In what’s bound to be an awesome event, Project Vinyl will host the annual Vinyl Art Jam on Friday (5-6:30 PM EDT) — over 100 artists from multiple-genres including art toys,  comics and tattoos will be given 90 minutes to customize this year’s featured DIY platform — a blank edition of the new 6″ Mez-itz from Mezco Toys.  The audience will vote on the customs and prizes will be awarded to the “fan favorites” . Starting on Sunday @ 1 PM the pieces will be auctioned both at the show and online with the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.   We’re looking forward to this mass live custom session.
