Seen: Amy Sol & Kathie Olivas @ Copro Nason

Updated: Added in the full photo gallery. Check Kathie and Brandt’s tats.

This past Saturday, Copro Nason hosted the  dual opening of  Amy Sol’s ‘Tonight we Travel by Dream’ and Kathie Olivas’s ‘Ghosts and Martyrs’ solo showsIn a very short time (2 years or so), Amy Sol has captivated collectors and risen quickly in the pop surrealist genre with her serene depictions of feminine and animal beauty.   As with her recent showings, all her paintings sold via preview before the opening.  She’s clearly one of the most in-demand artists in this genre today.

Kathie Olivas returned to Copro Nason roughly a year after her first solo at the gallery.  She  made an impressive showing with numerous paintings and of course, custom toys as well.  Her ‘Misery Children’ seem to be growing up — with fewer muzzles and the appearance of legs in her  ‘Life in the Land of Bliss’ series.  Building on the success of the SDCC version of the Benny and Red Bird figures, MINDstyle discreetly released the black on black edition of Kathie’s first original art toy.  These are limited to 100 pieces and retail for $180.  While it’s early, Kathie seems ready to join the ranks of the select few artists  who can be counted on regularly for in-demand toy releases.

Both shows continue through September 1st, 2007 — so if you missed the opening, go check it out.
