NVC – Chinese New Year: Lion Dance Labbit + Wong Fei Hung

NVC is back with a flourish.  To usher in the Year of the Boar, Dr. Bao and Spive have created a festive three figure + diorama set depicting a traditional Chinese New Year celebration complete with a Lion Dance Labbit, firecrackers, and legendary martial arts figure, Wong Fei Hung in Dunny form.  The centerpiece of the show is clearly the Lion Dance Labbit. The detail in the face area is stunning. As one might expect, this highly detailed custom proved to be a challenge. In particular, Bao tried three different fur treatments until he found one that gave him the look he was after.   As is tradition, a "Little Buddha" waves his fan to interact with the Lion.

Both Dr. Bao and Spive actively practice the ancient Chinese martial art of Wushu (pics of Bao practicing Wushu).
Drawing on their interest in martial arts, NVC decided to drop in their own flavor with the addition of  Wong Fei Hung — famed doctor + martial arts warrior.  Wong Fei Hung is almost pervasive in period Chinese Kung Fu filmsincluding classics such as Once Upon a Time in China. Here, he (with the traditional Q hair style) joins in the celebration riding atop the Labbit Lion.

For the ultimate finishing touch, NVC created a diorama featuring a traditional wooden gate (complete with firecrackers) and a martial arts practice area.  NVC’s custom-built dioramas are integral to their art which focuses on intensely thematic presentations.  We can’t wait to see what NVC will dream up for our upcoming custom show, Vinyl Elements, which will be held this Spring.
