Seen: Pictoplasma Day 1 & 2 from Triclops Robotboy

The Pictoplasma Conference  (10.11 – 14) in Berlin is the place-to-be with the top character designers from around the globe showing off their creations and skills.  We couldn’t make it out but thankfully Robotboy of Triclops has stepped up to cover the event.  Day 1 and 2 have come and gone and he has just dropped a sweet report — loaded with his pics and observations. It sounds like an amazing time.  Here’s Triclops Robotboy’s  report [with slight edits] + mad pics.  Enjoy!

Coo what a corker of a show we are enjoying out here in Berlin. It’s a
surreal experience, walking along is like a who’s who of the designer
toy scene, lots of celebs to spot.
Yesterday (the first day) was the Character Walk, a guided tour of
30 venues showin’ special bits n bobs especially for the show and they
were all situated amongst oodles of fantastic street art and stick-ups
(like decals rather than armed robberies you understand). [Day 2] was based at the FestSpiele, a
great big theatre with guest speakers from Tim Biskup to Doma and
everything in between (well maybe not quite everything).  My camera is
poop at dark spaces, shutter speed is all wrong but fellow Triclopsian
Tattooman
has got some good pics (I’m hoping) of the projected images
accompanying Tim Biskup’s awe-inspiring and intimate presentation. This
whole experience is quite incredible, it’s great to get  insight into
what makes these guys tick. The Tim Biskup show in town is also
phenomenal, I’d never seen any of his work in real life before (you
guys in the US are spoilt!) but more of those pics will follow tomorrow
once I’ve uploaded.

Didn’t get round all
of the character walk just yet, we were wandering around with the guys
from Clutter mag and Kidrobot’s very own Baroness so it was easy to get
distracted. Nathan J’s sketches in biro were also awesome, as was the
Emily the Strange stuff. Soooo much eye candy! Hope I’m gushing enough
here, i’m probably sleep deprived!

Today there was a doodling workshop
with Jon Burgerman and Sune Ehlers as instigators.  I chatted with Jaz of  the London Police as he doodled. [His] mastery of the free hand
circle is absolutely against the laws of nature and has to be seen to
be believed!  Enough already, I’ll rant some more with my next post…
