For 31 years, CBGB of NY has been a space for new creativity in music and art. It has served as a starting ground for the careers of thousands of musicians and artists. However, today they face a terrible challenge. They are losing their lease. But they are not going away without a fight and you can help.
The SwearBears, Drastic Plastic, Hi Fructose Magazine, Clutter Magazine, and Play Times Magazine is presenting "Swear to Save" a benefit to help save this historic club. The show will feature 150 vinyl SwearBear figures customized by gigposter artists and musicians. Each artist will display 1 custom 7" SwearBear figure and 1 piece of original art. The show opens on February 14th, 2006 and will run until March 10th at CB’s 313 Gallery in NYC. Opening reception is from 6 pm and on. Live music too.
As listed below, there are some amazing artists participating in this show. What’s exciting to me is that many of them are not actively involved in designer toys. We should see some fresh takes on customized toys with a wide range of artistic styles.

Awesome line-up! Having once played at CB’s, how did I miss getting in on THIS one?
i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, those artists need support more than cbgb’s does. and cbgb’s has never supported any artists, musical or otherwise. even their punk rock history (and it is history) was based -entirely- on the fact that it brought money into the club.
I sorta agree with SC. I don’t understand what needs to be saved at CBGB. The owner agreed with the landlord that he will close the place on Halloweeen and will be opening up in a new spot in NYC and Las Vegas. What exactly is going to be saved. I really hope the money goes to the artists.

Half the dough goes to the artist, the otehr half goes to the club (gallery)
just like a normal show.
I recognize a few names in that line-up… and I’m rather curious about this show, it sounds interesting.

Looks like a cool show, tons of good artists. Too bad it’s on a Swear Bear It’s a cute Spencer’s Gift toy, but it’s no art object!
