Munky King released Amanda Visell’s first original vinyl figure, the Pink Elephant,

last night at their Melrose location in a festive event featuring the

toys, an art show with new paintings and wood sculptures live music,

and free beer on tap. The Pink Elephant featuring a removable

magnetic Drunky McSkunky (the star of the show besides Amanda) was released

available in both the
standard Pink edition (600 pieces) and the blue

Prohibition edition (150 pieces).

Amanda created several new paintings with a drunk hobo theme befitting Drunky McSkunky including a large hobo train piece on canvas (notable as Amanda usually paints on art board mounted under glass). She also flexed her wood sculpting skills with two pink Elephant sculptures one with an elaborate moon shine still. Proving customizing isn’t just for toys, Amanda painted up a Boozy McWoozy vibrating amusement machine. At her table right in front of the back-room gallery, she signed and doodled on the elephant vinyls, prints, and her "Popping through Pictures" book from Baby Tattoo.

As is often the case with MK events, the initial crowd of collectors slowly grew as the night wore on. At several points the cash register area was mobbed as was Amanda’s signing table. In between looking at art and buying toys, people ate their fair share of peanuts, free beer on tap from the Skyscraper Brewing Company and enjoyed the blues stylings of the Bilgewater Brothers.

The show will be up until January 3rd, so if you didn’t make it to the opening — go check it out — the wood sculptures and paintings are worth a look face to face. Congrats to Amanda and Munky King on a smooth launch.
