Japanese illustrator Hiroshi Yoshii has finished the labor-intensive production on the first batch of hand-painted Piyora resins. Available in three colors (blue, pink and green), the fish measure 90 mm x 58 mm x 60 mm (3.5 x 2.2 x 2.3”). Limited to 30 pieces each, the first six of each of color are now available for 12,000 yen each ($112) from One Up.

The cute fish figures started life as a 3D model in Zbrush, were then output on 3D printers, cast as resin, and hand-painted by Hiroshi. The base color was applied with an airbrush in several coats while the details (eyes, nose, etc) were painted directly by brush. As you can tell from the pictures – these have a really nice smooth glossy finish. Hiroshi has painstakingly documented his toy making process on his toy blog.
