MINDstyle’s Slap Happy and Mr. Muggles by Brandt Peters breathes 3d life into his dope black and white  down-on-their-luck retro characters.  The power of Brandt’s work comes from the seemingly familiar and therefore pleasing style layered with his personal viewpoint.   The SDCC shared exclusive  2-pack features a fitting mono  colorway and will be available at  the 1045 Showroom @ Toytokyo booth (#5333) and also at VTN from the 3DRetro booth.   

Ahh… This is Tuesday.  So here we go… Time to try your luck in the Mr. Muggles and Slap Happy giveaway.  To enter simply write a comment on this post and be sure to include your real email address.  One randomly chosen winner will score the SDCC exclusive mono Mr. Muggles and Slap Happy 2-figure set.  Deadline to enter is Monday, July 30th, 2007 @ 8 PM PDT.

Ah yes, it reminds me of the glory days of Hal Roach and the Little Runts he used beat to perfom for him. “Spanky” got spanked ” Froggy” was choked to the point where his vocal chords and windpipe were crushed ,resulting in that charming voice we all know and love… Hal built an empire on being abusive towards those little shits and we loved him for it. This new artwork of Brandt Peters harkens back to a simpler time when there was still cocaine in “Coca-Cola”, cigarettes were not only cool ,but also good for you and using a rubber hose on a mis-behaving toddler was not out of the question. Those are referred to as the “Good ‘ol days” warm my heart. When I saw liitle “Muggles and Slappy” tears of joy filled my eyes.

  229. Of all the names, why “Muggles?” I’d say they were less “Looney Tune” and more Fleischer. The notched pupils could be a nod to one version of Disney’s Mickey.

  237. “Muggles” is a “hardboiled” 1930s slang word for narcotics – I thought it was perfect for Slappy’s best friend… It was used for this character way before a particular film made the term popular…

  417. Very friggan’ cool. This reminds me of The Skeleton Dance from 1929 the first silly symphony cartoon. These toys just ooze style and attitude. Brilliant
