In an interesting first (as far as we know), Mimobot is offering blind-box USB drives designed by Friends With You. The Wish Come True BLOTz series features 15 designs by FWY’s Sam and Tury. Each BLOTz is a 2gb Mimobot and will retail for $14.95.
We’re really curious to see how the BLOTz are received. This merging of the collecting frenzy of blind-box designer toys and flash drives has us wondering how many flash drives one person wants and also if $14.95 is a low-enough price point to encourage people to buy multiple pieces. Finally, at $14.95, these FWY BLOTz are 5 dollars cheaper than the normal window-boxed 2GB Mimobots. Will people opt for the blind-box as a cost-saving measure? Maybe not, since design is key here. Interestingly, Mimobots also announced three new FWY window-boxed designs. These 3 new designs are only available at capacities of 4gb and up ($24.95 and up). The older FWY Mimobots are available in 2GB sizes for $19.95. At any rate, we’re definitely intrigued. Always good to see a new approach. What do you think ?
I own 5 mimobots and all were purchased based upon their design. Such as my R2-D2 and FWY mimobots. $14.95 for a 2GB drive isn’t really that good of a deal. Unless you a fan of the artist or design I doubt anybody would want to buy multiples of these. Hence the blind box idea is a poor business move. Make them $9.99 and I’ll pick one up just to customize.
