Legions of Grape Brain collectors will gather at myplasticheart in NYC for Friday’s opening of the combined GVX custom show and Popupshop NYC event. The event will feature top-flight artist customs and seven exclusive Grape Brain toys.
Curated by Grumpybert, GVX (Grape Brain vs X) features hand-done customs of the Onigiri cat figure, Macaroni and maybe a few others from a talented roster of artists including: Andrea Kang, Brent Nolasco, Bwana Spoons, Candie Bolton, ChrisRWK, Grumble Toy, JCORP, Jeremiah Ketner, KaijuSteven, Klav, MechaVirus, Mumbot, Rampage Toys, Sad Salesman, Scott Wilkowski, Splurrt, Thad Wilkes, Wonder Goblin, Xybot, ZROPRO, Barely Human, Martin Ontiveros and DeathCat Toys. Most of the customs interpret Grape Brain’s memorable characters with imaginative paint applications while a few transform the figures with custom sculpting.
In addition to the GVX customs, myplasticheart will present the Popupshop NYC event—the first of several planned Grape Brain Popups—with seven myplasticheart ‘Pink Heart’ exclusives including pink glitter editions of Onigiri, Macaroni, Theilla, Kamabo, Gebogebo and Noriko. And last but not, least the Pink Heart Jumbo Nigiri GID (12″, $350) featuring articulated legs—sit cat, sit—and a fancy canvas drawstring bag. The popup will also feature an event tee in both black and pink versions. Any remaining exclusives will be available online from myplasticheart on Saturday (12.12), the day after the opening.
