Bay area artist Jesse Hernandez brings his Urban Aztec brand aesthetic to the king kaiju with an officially-licensed Godzilla vinyl art toy in collaboration with Mondo and Toho. The formidable figure debuts with the Burning Variant which amps up the classic black, red orange flame with the addition of hot pink accents.
The wild color treatment matches the intensity of Hernandez’s design which re-envisions Godzilla as a fierce Aztec armored beast. Every angle brings a wave of detail with eye-catchings elements that also flow together into an imposing whole. While the front and 3/4 views are impressive, the profile view showcases the intricate, layered dorsal fins/blades and the smooth translation into the segmented tail.
While the paint sample on display at Mondo’s SDCC booth turned heads and had collectors sweating, the full release packs an added burst of energy with the reveal of a stylized Heat Ray Blast accessory in Hernandez’s signature Urban Aztec style. The accessory concept lets collectors decide just how over-the-top to go with the display: red hot or mind melting.
The Godzilla – Burning Variant vinyl art toy is available for pre-order as a timed-edition until Friday (9.1) at 9:59 AM PDT from Mondo for $150. The figure is part of Mondo’s ongoing Godzilla vinyl toy series.
