Yubi Nikola puts his twist on the beloved family from Springfield with his Run Homie and Large Marge resin art toys. Viewed from the front or the rear ends, each piece features a silhouette of Mr. and Mrs. Simpson mid-step. Rotating the pieces to the sides reveals a jarring juxtaposition as the popular cartoon characters become Mac-10 and Uzi submachine guns.
Nikola’s use of extruded outlines arms his designs with a double-take worthy viewing experience that is sure to be provocative. While not ‘new’ per se, the concept has not yet become popular for art toys. Part of the The Weapons series, the Run Homie and Large Marge designs are part of a larger body of work focused on extruded weapons, many of which feature the family from Springfield.
