BlackBook Toy is releasing the new Boo & Dr. 13 sofubi art toy set from Monster Farm’s Chop in two colorways — Neon Green & Hot Pink. First available as a pre-order at the recent DesignerCon show (11/22), Boo is Chop’s hot rod-inspired Frankenstein-style character with wagging tongue. His buddy, Dr. 13, is a grim reaper with doubled-up eyes.
BlackBook Toy has focused the figure’s development on translating and adapting the original resin design to take full advantage of sofubi’s strengths. Turns out the key is the tongue. For starters, it’s now articulated (360 degrees). Beyond a variety of poses/moods, the tongue design allows Dr. 13 to fit on top of Frankie’s upturned tongue. BBT has also worked to preserve the OG sculpt including the up turned little toe—a challenge for sofubi production in terms of clean pulls from a metal mold.
The Boo & Dr. 13 sofubi art toy set (10.6/3.15″) is available via lottery (full info) until Monday (12.26) at 6:59 AM PST for $240 (includes international shipping) or ¥26,200 (with japan).
