Yoskay Yamamoto will open his Sunset Chasers and Midnight Bandits solo at Basalt Studio—owned by Michelle Valigura— in Cannon Beach, Oregon on Saturday (5.7). Yamamoto has carved several sculptures for the show, many of which incorporate the ocean into his signature moonlit scenes. The sculptures unfold scenes through multiple elements, some painted, some left natural. In addition to the sculptures, the show collection also includes several sketches and three paintings.
As a quick preview, here’s a look at a few select pieces including the serene Buoyant Moon and Paper Boat sculpture awash in blue moonlight and the heartfelt High Fiving the Moon sculpture exploring the wonder that surrounds us. The star-shaped Hoshifuru Yoru painting features one of the artist’s familiar human characters partially submerged in an ocean of stars. Finally, the sketch revisits Yamamoto’s charming house character.
