Toronto-based artist Gang Box (Moya Garrison-Msingwana) brings his SNH series off the page and into 3D with the newly released SNH_003 resin sculpture produced by the Letter Bet Gallery. The artist’s SNH series offers an alternate view of city dwellers venturing out into the outdoors with a rare afrocentric focus.
Meticulously hand-painted by the artist, each sculpture features a pink-haired adventurer loaded (or perhaps overloaded) with gear for the great outdoors. The authentic detail of the gear from the hiking shoes to the stuff sacks and pack, speaks to anyone that’s camped before or taken the challenge of a dirt trail. The character’s anime doll toy and bright pink pouch stand are reminders of the urban jungle. As a final touch, the glowing eyes peering from within the large pack, offer a lighthearted take on the anticipation of what might lie in the unfamiliar woods.
An edition of 50, the SNH_003 resin sculpture (11″H x 5.5″W) is available for preorder from Letter Bet for CA$750 ($597). The sculpture includes a made of reclaimed wood with a screen-printed, sliding plexiglass cover. Due to the handmade nature of the work, sculptures will ship 4-6 weeks after ordering.
