Sculptural artist Jim McKenzie has collaborated with Mooncrane Studio on two bronze editions of his The Monster’s Mother sculpture. McKenzie first brought his creative vision of the mother of Frankenstein to life as a fully-painted original sculpture back in 2017 for a show at Last Rites Gallery in NYC (see process video below)
From the waist up, the resemblance between the elegantly dressed mother and her legendary soon is obvious from the familiar stitched forehead to the neck bolts. Fortunately or unfortunately, her son didn’t inherit her octopus-like tentacles.
The new 14″ bronze sculpture is available in two editions: a Patina edition featuring a deep green patina and a Natural edition with the classic bronze appearance. The bronze editions follows the previously released 12″ painted resin sculpture (2019), also from Mooncrane Studio.
Editions of 25, the The Monster’s Mother Patina Bronze ($2500) and Natural Bronze ($1000) 14″ sculptures are available for pre-order from Mooncrane Studio with an estimated shipping date of Q4 2022. Each sculpture comes in a laser-etched wood box and includes a signed/numbered certificate of authenticity. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ukraine Red Cross.
