Unique BMBOX Special Editions by Elena Kazi

Greece-based artist Elena Kazi has created two unique BMBOX S.E. art toys available through Sotheby’s The Art and Influence of Hip Hop auction. Limited to one piece each, The Leader BMBOX S.E. and the Tribe BMBOX S.E are the rarest of Kazi’s BMBOX miniatures which condense the thrill of blasting hip hop classics on a massive boombox into 3.7″ handpainted art toys with functioning cassette doors for the included mini cassettes.

Inspired by Eric B. and Rakim’s classic Follow the Leader album (1988), the The Leader BMBOX S.E. ups the luxury quotient of the original black and gold BMBOX edition (7 pieces) with the additions of a 23.75k gold leaf mini cassette and mini gold-plated rope chain. It’s up for auction now at Sotheby’s until Wednesday (3.30) at 9:52 AM PDT.

Kazi’s Tribe BMBOX S.E goes a step beyond as its a 1/1 alternate colorway of her Tribe BMBOX inspired by A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory album (1991). The special edition switches the main color from red to black, for a sleeker, more streamlined vibe. This one is offered as part of the The Native Tongues BMBOX Trio lot which also includes The Queen BMBOX (#3/10) inspired by Queen Latifah’s All Hail The Queen album (1989) and the De La BMBOX (#11/15) inspired by De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising album (1989). The lot of three is available via auction from Sothebys until Wednesday (3.30) at 9:53 AM PDT.
