Renowned street artist and painter Nychos will open his immersive art experience, The Awakening, at Mirus Gallery in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday (2.22.2022). The museum-style show features over 100 original pieces arranged thematically on a path weaving through the large space.
Nychos used his solitary time during the pandemic to explore the numerous, interconnected visions of himself and others through a series of paintings exploring a rebirth, of self and of conceptualizing reality. Rooted in the detailed dissections that have become his signature aesthetic and his own pain, many of the paintings transcend the body with a metaphysical viewpoint linking mind, body and a higher level of existence. Set against black backgrounds, these pieces are presented in a dimly lit area at the midpoint of the show’s walking path.
While the metaphysical paintings lie at the heart of the show, physically and thematically, Nychos has also created a varied collection of paintings that drawn on his popular themes including several dissecting pop culture icons from Homer Simpson to Garfield. Other pieces present dramatic dissections of varied subjects from a Pharaoh to a pregnant woman. Moving beyond flat dissections, many of the pieces incorporate striking translucency to tell a full story from the outside in.
The show also features the artist’s recent explorations into digital art with one wall featuring provocative, doll-style NFTs and another offering projected interactive art including a bunny suit character that mimics the motions of a person and a fearsome T-Rex that’s aware of the prey in its surroundings.
An experience to be absorbed rather than merely viewed, The Awakening ticketed show opens on Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022 (2.22.22) at Mirus Gallery in Downtown LA and runs through May 1, 2022. Timed tickets are available now at varying prices based on the time slot selected.
