‘Attack of the Dildonts’ by Rodrigo Roji

Previous Next

Mexico-based artist Rodrigo Roji opened his short-run Attack of the Dildonts solo show at La-La Land Gallery on Thursday evening (2.17). As the name suggests, the show puts Roji’s humorous Dildont character front and center. Intended as a flexible artistic platform, Dildont transforms a private object into a slightly naughty yet cute character.

The show features several large-format Dildont fiberglass sculptures including a shark bomb, Cookie Monster, Adidas stan, kaiju-like monster, cactus and a collaboration with RCNSTRCT featuring the brand’s vintage collage-style apparel. With each of these designed pieces, the character’s inspiration recedes into the background, just as any good platform should. In addition to the large pieces, the show also features the first of a planned spectrum series of medium-sized dildonts in varying shades.

Beyond the Dildonts, the show is also an opportunity to view the entire line of Roji’s new Always Somewhere Else vinyl art toy produced by 3DRetro. In addition to the OG edition, the Mexico City (Pink), 3DRetro Exclusive (Sepia) and NTWRK Exclusive (black) editions are on display. The figure is a strong example of a modern urban art toy with an effortless, authentic street vibe.

Attack of the Dildonts runs through Saturday, February 19th at 5 PM PST.
