Philadelphia-based Martian Toys is currently accepting nominations for their first ever Customizer of the Year award. The award will recognize the very best professional custom toy artists—specialists who create at least ten customs per year. While the DTA’s recognize the best individual custom toy, Martian Toys’ new award is focused on a customizer’s overall body of work in the past year in terms of five criteria: productivity, participation, quality, range and impact.
As a celebration of the role customizers play in pushing the medium forward, the Customizer of the Year prizes focus on helping top talent make the jump from custom to production toys. The first place winner will get to design an original limited-edition resin to be produced by Martian Toys and a production colorway of a future Martian Toys figure. Second place will get to design a Martian Toys colorway and receive a ‘pile o vinyl’ for customizing. Third place will receive $1000 worth of vinyl to customize.
Nominations (link at the bottom) will close on Friday (12.31) around 7 PM EST (based on the recent ’30 hours’ to go posting). Winners will be selected via the public and select people in the Designer Toy industry and announced in mid-January 2022. Good luck!
