‘Atom Vs. Astro’ Sculpture by Louis De Guzman x Astro Boy x BAIT

Previous Next

Chicago-based artist Louis De Guzman brings his signature geometric aesthetic to Osamu Tezuka’s iconic manga character with the Atom Vs. Astro vinyl & metal sculpture created with BAIT. The dynamic piece features Astro Boy—originally known as the Mighty Atom—encircled by abstract geometric shapes that seem poised to transform the character’s identity. As related by the artist, the sculpture and the accompanying capsule explore the theme of self-reflection in the face of one’s path through challenges and pivotal moments.

The Atom Vs. Astro project encompasses the just-closed solo exhibition of the same name, held at BAIT’s gallery, featuring original artwork as well as a special capsule collection anchored by the limited-edition sculpture.

A series of paintings and sculpture work dedicated to the idea and importance of self-reflection. I intend for the viewer to question their perception of the current temperatures that they’re currently living through with the challenges that present themselves along the way. Highlighting life’s daily obstacles and overall milestones to
remind ourselves how far we’ve come and how much more there is left to go. I find life’s true beauty to lie within the chaos. That amongst all complexities, comes the true values of our genuine purpose. To move freely and to trust ourselves through it all. This is ATOM VS. ASTRO
