‘Skull Kid’ Sofubi by Meteoratoyz Debuts at DesignerCon

Japanese artist Meteoratoyz (Takeo Tsuhara) is set to release a brand-new sofubi version of his signature Skull Kid character. Inspired by Kustom Kulture, the urban art toy celebrates hot rods, skateboards and lowbrow. With a gnarly skull head, gangly arms, and a necronomicon-style backpack, this kid is radical ready. Rounding out his edges, the character brings the bling with an old-school, sparkly gold cross necklace.

As fun as the overall design is, the devil here, really is in the details. As seen in the closeup shots of a green proto figure, Meteoratoyz has sculpted in details throughout including a chain at the waist, ripped pants revealing a bony knee and rivets on the cap. Our favorite element though is the bug squashed on the sneaker soles.

Evolved over several resin versions, the new Skull Kid features an integrated cap that swivels to match the moment’s vibe: forward, sideways, backwards and anything in between. All in all, the figure features three points of articulation (cap and arms).

The Skull Kid sofubi art toy (6″) is set to debut in a glossy purple edition at DesignerCon 2021 (11.12 – 11.14) in Anaheim, CA at the Toy Art Gallery booth for $60.
