For its exclusive Visible Labbit, IamRetro flexed its design skills to bring a fun, irreverent 8-bit vibe to the plastic + plush art toy from Frank Kozik x Kidrobot. Celebrating the classic console colors, the red, black and grey inner plush labbit flows with retro gaming juice throughout, from the pixelated hearts on the ear bones to the brick baddie bombs and more on the detachable organs (Yep!). The inspired design features ‘IamRetro’ emblazoned across the eyes and a laugh-out-loud, beautifully naughty ‘Game Over’ over every 13-year old’s hands-down pick as the ‘best’ part of the Labbit.
Detachable organs are just one of the in-plain-sight tricks in store for collectors. It turns out that the plush labbit can be removed from the easily opened clear shell. Say what? Yep. The come-apart feature definitely brings back fond memories of Kozik’s early, early Bone Bunny—Labbit’s ancestor—with its lift off top and skeleton within.
Oddly, Kidrobot never mentioned these headline-grabbing play features in the promo for the previous two Visible Labbits. Perhaps they didn’t want to ruin the surprise? At any rate, this is a fun toy.
