Sky King Pterantor by Chris Lee

After a full year of development and production, Chris Lee is set to unleash the ‘Sky King Pterantor‘ soft vinyl art toy. The first release in his self-produced Primeval Island series is inspired by his love of dinosaurs, vintage kaiju toys and his favorite primeval flier—the pteranodon. The figure will debut in the brown/green Imperial colorway named after the kaiju toy company.

In addition to the toy launch, Chris Lee has written up a detailed breakdown of his creative process and experiences in bringing his winged beast to life with the assistance of Dante Rockford’s sculpting and Props and Pop’s 3D prototyping skills. One of the fascinating (at least for a ‘toy nerd’) is the discussion of the challenges caused by the creature’s shape, from its difficult-to-pull head to the wings which are also difficult to produce with the traditional slush cast method. It’s a must-read for collectors, fans and most of all, toy nerds.

An edition of 300, the Sky King Pterantor soft vinyl toy (8″) takes flight on Friday (3.19) at 10 AM PST from Chris Lee’s site. The figure is in stock and ready to ship. Each figure comes in classic bag/header packaging and includes a 2×2″ prismatic ‘Bikkuriman’ style sticker and 5×5″ postcard designed by Johan Ulrich plus a Primeval Island sticker.
