DesignerCon is Expanding Worldwide

There’s lots of exciting news coming from DesignerCon. Summarized in a press release, DCon is returning to the Anaheim Convention Center for a November 2021 in-person show (11.12-14), planning a summer 2021 event with Popshop Live and also expanding with additional shows spread across the globe.

DesignerCon 2021 Returns to Anaheim

While the overseas show news is quite exciting, we’re quite happy and relieved that DCon is planning to resume its regular convention schedule in Anaheim. So many of us missed gathering in person for DCon last year to buy the newest releases and hang out with friends. While nothing is certain with this unpredictable virus, a November event seems quite plausible with the reduction in case numbers and the increased vaccination rates. That said, while DesignerCon 2020 Online had some expected glitches, the overall live stream shopping (‘Social Commerce’) proved to be quite popular.

So much so that in addition to November’s regular convention, DesignerCon will be teaming up with Popshop Live once again for a Summer 2020 online event. Perhaps this will become a recurring event going forward?

DesignerCon UK Debuts in 2021

Ok. So what this about world domination? Ok, just kidding. However, DesignerCon has announced that the very first DesignerCon UK is set for a two-day show in August 2021 in London (8.21 – 8.22). Amazing news! As DCon founder Ben Goretsky mentioned on Wednesday’s Toy Geeks Behind the Counter episode, the UK show is being organized by a London-based partner with extensive convention experience and local familiarity with the city, venues and accommodations. This show should help continue the growth of the scene in the UK and Europe as a whole as well. And… it’s another great reason to visit London (not that we needed more reasons).

DesignerCon China

More? Yes! The press release also mentions DesignerCon China in 2022. During last night’s live stream, Ben Goretsky mentioned that the show will be held in Shanghai. It sounds like this show will also be presented in conjunction with a local partner. China is arguably the fastest growing art toy market with numerous conventions including Pop Mart’s well-established Shanghai Toy Show (Spring) and Beijing Toy Show (Fall). We can’t wait to see what DesignerCon China adds to the scene. Even more? DesignerCon Japan was mentioned on last night’s TGBTC stream as well. Perhaps in 2023?

There’s certainly more to stay and reflect on, but we’re really pleased that DesignerCon is continuing to push the scene forward in part by looking outwards.
