Inspired by vintage tokusatsu shows, Kenneth Tang of Blackseed Toys has created the Power Raider 5-in-1 vinyl art toy, the first in his Tokusatsu Vinyl series. Riffing off the classic five-become-one mecha giants, Power Raider features five individual vinyl figures—Tyrannosaurus Machine (01), Pterosaur Machine (02), Vampyricitis Machine (03), Triceratops Machine (04) and Mammoth Machine (05). As you would hope, each of the five figures combine to form the formidable Beast Giant (00).
While such combination mecha toys are fairly common, Power Raider is remarkable in that this concept is executed not in hard ABS plastic but much softer and less precise soft vinyl. One might ask why. Likely because vinyl toys have their own feel and mystique and carrying that over to the build-a-robot concept is a fun challenge and cool concept.
The Power Raider vinyl art toy set (7.1″ assembled Beast Giant) is available for pre-order from select retailers including USA-based myplasticheart and Tokucollectibles for a rather reasonable $120. The vinyl marvel is set to ship in September 2020. We’re looking forward to an ‘assembly’ video (fingers crossed).
