Roughly a year ago, Steven Choi and Kaiyodo unveiled the first Zu & Pi blind-boxed minis at WonderFestival Winter 2019 in Japan. The original series brought Choi’s Zu & Pi story to life across six intricately sculpted and painted figures. Now the slightly delayed Series 2 is set for release at this year’s WonderFestival Winter (2.9) from Kaiyodo’s booth.
Choi has stated that S2 explores life’s disappointments, reactions to them, and the recognition that everyone and everything should be expected to have shortcomings. From the previews, the new series looks to build on and perhaps surpass the original series. Each of the three Pi figures push the boundaries of mini figures with a scene-based approach to story telling. This is exemplified by the one of Pi playing guitar, resting against a tree with the apparent threads of his travels surrounding him.
