‘Riot of Liberty’ by Whatshisname

Previous Next

Celebrating and supporting the right to protest tyranny and unfairness, UK artist Whatshisname has created the Riot of Liberty resin statue. Fusing the powerfully symbolic image of the Statue of Liberty with countless replayed news footage of a protestor lobbing a Molotov cocktail, the new work reminds us that liberty is not to be taken for granted, that it is constantly in peril, and that the price is often high. Riot of Liberty is currently on display at the London Art Fair 2020 (1.21 – 1.26) by TAG Fine Arts (Stand 16).

Limited to an edition of 25, the Riot of Liberty (13″) will be released from the artist’s online shop on Friday (1.24). The artist will also simultaneously release a companion 3-color screen print (Edition of 25).  Full information about the release is available via the artist’s newsletter.

Whatshisname’s politically conscious new work showcases the range of his artistic expression including his likely best-known humorous series of images and art toys—Popek and others—featuring balloon dogs engaged in life’s essential activities.
