Takashi Murakami is creating new Kokeshi Dolls in collaboration with Japanese kokeshi maker Usaburo. From the design mockup, the kokeshi features what appears at first to be a traditional girl design. As seen in the photos of the in-development dolls, the scene on the kimono features fun Murakami elements including his smiling flower character in the cherry blossoms and a cartoon-like Mt. Fuji. The new kokeshi dolls will be sold via Murakami’s Tonari no Zingaro store in Nakano Broadway (Tokyo). Traditionally crafted in wood, it’s not yet clear what material will be used for Murakami’s upcoming kokeshi.
