Kidrobot has begun to preview its upcoming Exquisite Corpse Dunny series featuring a mix and match concept made possible by a new modular Dunny design. Curated by Red Mutucua Studios and CoART Magazine, the series features the studio’s twelve artists including Brazil-based Luiz Unreal, creator of the first preview: Nosunsferatu. The humorous, clever design focuses on Vampires’ inability to survive in sunlight and the dangers of putting too much faith in advertisers’ claims. The design has a rarity of 2/24, meaning it should be relatively easy to pull for those that purchase a full display case.
The Exquisite Corpse Dunny series will be released on Friday, February 7th 2020 at 8 AM PST from Kidrobot’s online store and select retailers. The series is named after the creative challenge enjoyed Frida Kahlo and other Surrealist painters enjoyed, which involved taking turns creating a portrait on a folded sheet of paper so that each artist had to create a section (head, torso, etc) without the benefit of seeing the others’ work.
The inspiration for this #dunny design came from the misleading advertisements we always see on the media. I had recently seen a vampire movie and his weakness to sunlight, so I kept imagining him in our society, facing the consequences of trusting the media in a humorous way. The men’s swimwear was inspired by 1915 swim fashion – Luiz Unreal
