Flawtoys’ is best known for their Stranger art toy. Released in many editions over the years, the Stranger’s appeal is its streamlined shape devoid of texture or deco other than the impressive editions featuring embedded objects. Expanding on their signature character, Flawtoys has created the whimsicial Balloon Boy, a bust version of the Stranger holding a Stranger-shaped balloon. As with the Stranger, part of the unique draw of Balloon Boy is that it blurs the boundary between art toy and design object, giving it broader appeal and resonance.
Balloon Boy will be available in the classic Red, Green and Blue translucent editions, each with a smoke gray translucent balloon. Slightly larger the standard 7″ Stranger, Balloon Boy is 6.5 tall at the top of his head, and 10-inch at the balloon’s top. Limited to 100 pieces (30 red, 40 green, 30 blue), FlawToys’ Balloon Boy resin art toy will be available for €320 ($356)/each via a Kickstarter Campaign beginning on Friday (1.31) at 8 AM PST for 30 days. There will also be the opportunity to unlock extra, interchangeable balloons: Matte Black (150% Stretch Goal) and GID (300% Stretch Goal).
