Coarse – Omen Help! Pre-Orders Start on 9.1

Coarse will offer it’s Omen Help! DIY figures in both 3” and 7” sizes via select retailers starting on Friday (9.1) at 8:59 AM PDT.  These first popped up at the 2017 Thailand Toy Expo in May and now will be available worldwide.  There are four face variants for both sizes – Stare (eyes closed), Smile (blank face with beak), Scowl (completely blank face) and Squint (eyes open).  While they share face designs, the 3” figures feature white bodies while the 7” have gray bodies.

These will be available from myplasticheart, Rotofugi, Toy Qube, Toy Art Gallery and more.  We expect pricing to vary a bit from shop to shop given each store’s cost to receive the figures but expect to pay in the $80-$90 for the 7” and $16-$20 for the 3”.  It might pay to shop around on this drop.

Jason Freeny x Mighty Jaxx – Marvin the Martian and Tweety XXRAY Plus

Jason Freeny and Mighty Jaxx have revisited two sold out Warner Brothers’ XXRAY figures—Tweety and Marvin the Martian—with new larger 8” XXRAY Plus editions.  Both are available for pre-order now exclusively from Mighty Jaxx for $80 (+ s/h) and are slated to ship in Q4 2017.

While the new Tweety appears to feature a larger version of the OG XXRAY figure’s sculpt, the XXRAY Plus Marvin the Martian features an all-new dynamic sculpt.  Where the 4” figure had a straight-on angry pose with Marvin’s arms at his side, the new 8” features 3/4 style stealthy pose with our favorite Martian wielding his blaster. Interestingly, this one features a partial cut-away of the right forearm in addition to the customary anatomic cross-section.  Great stuff. I think it’s an improvement over the smaller, OG sculpt.

2PetalRose – Kid Katana Debuts in 3” Editions (8.28)

The wait for 2PetalRose’s Kid Katana is almost over.  His young yet deadly rebel debuts as a deluxe 3” mini figure complete with sashimono, katana, flag, base, lucky Noodles mascot by Concrete and Bone.  and scroll packaged in a nifty carded blister. Kid Katana will drop  in both OG and Skull editions limited to 15 hand-painted pieces each for £70 pounds (~ $89) on Monday (8.28) at 8 AM PDT over at 2PetalRose’s web store.

While his smallest figure so far, Kid Katana delivers 2PetalRose’s signature stylized samurai aesthetic with a high-level of detail thanks in part to the excellent digital sculpting by Oasim Karmieh.   We’re also looking forward to seeing what magic 2PetalRose weaves with the upcoming larger editions of the new figure.

This journey begins at Capitol Point, a small underground bunker town on the outskirts of what used to be Tokyo city. Those that survived the last war were forced underground to escape being captured and enslaved by the Emperor. With very little entertainment, children are encouraged to train in the ancient art of the Samurai under the guidance of Master ZU. One katana wielding student they call “The Kid" is ready to fight back and free the slaves, but he can’t do it alone. . . He needs to assemble a team.... of Renegade Knights.

Toy Geeks Behind the Counter Ep 32: “Bootleg Bobby” Featuring Special Ed Toys

Toy Geeks Behind the Counter rolls on gathering followers, action figures, art toys, and yes, bootlegs!  Episode 32 features Manny Rivas of Special Ed Toys who talks about Darth Trump Bootlego edition (or should I say, the ‘Spirit of Darth Trump’), previews the new Protest Trooper Bootlego which is available now from his shop for $15 (+ s/h), and plenty more of his bootleg goodies.

If you’re wondering what the Protest Trooper is about, it’s a reaction to the religious protestors who carry large yellow signs and position themselves outside of San Diego Comic-Con year after year, without fail.  I’m wondering why mr. trooper doesn’t have a bullhorn as well?

Huck Gee Steps Away From Art Toys

Huck Gee has announced that he’s closing his toy studio and is seeking a new adventure in the wide world of design.  We’re pretty sure he’ll land on his feet quickly.  We all know the art toy game isn’t quite what it used to be—rather large understatement—and Huck while extremely popular, wasn’t getting ahead and didn’t feel like he could keep going with a family to look out for.  If you haven’t already, take a few minutes to read his thoughts on the close of his toy journey.

It’s a sad day, Huck is one of the legends of the Art Toy scene and has been almost larger than life for me and many, many collectors for as long as I can remember.  And perhaps more importantly, he’s always been down to earth, ready with a wide smile, and extremely generous.

On the toy side of things—rather bittersweet at the moment—Huck has an *awesome* Robotech project with BAIT.  We’re really excited to see that bad boy drop.  Pretty amazing that he went from his Livery Customs to a full blown licensed production toy, which apparently will become part of the official canon!

As for current projects, Gold Life will continue with Mighty Jaxx and plans are in the works to have Clutter oversee production of the Blanks.

Huck, here’s to finding a new path that brings you much deserved success and prosperity.   Thank you for all the joy and passion you’ve shared with all of us.
