Welcome to the April edition of Reactor-88's Custom Corner. This month we’re highlighting Gabriel Carpio.
What’s your name?
My name is Gabriel Eduardo Carpio Sergiacomo or just Gabriel Carpio 🙂 Sometimes I’m also known as RedOni.
Where are you located?
I’m from Venezuela.
Day job or full-time artist?
I work full time as graphic designer in the area of printed and visual media for advertising. I also work as a freelance illustrator for clothing brands and other projects.
Any random things you want people to know about you?
I also worked as bartender for about six years (best job ever in the world), so I can make some really cool party drinks 🙂 Im also a full-time, hardcore gamer. (PSN: GaboTprime1)
How long have you been painting toys?
I have painted my whole life, but after I started work as a graphic designer I became more digital and left behind traditional drawing and painting. About three years ago I discovered the world of vinyl toy art thanks to my friends at Freakstore (Fonzoworld), Mario and Anelys. They got me involved in the vinyl toy world, and that got me back to drawing and painting again. I’ve been painting toys about two years now.
Anything specific you’d like people to know about your toy work (style, influences, special techniques, etc.)?
For now my style draws heavily on Asian culture because I really enjoy it- it is rich in history and characters. I also use some tattoo and comic style in my paintings and toys. I usually use acrylic paint and water-based paint for my toys.
Do you take commissions?
Yes I take commissions.
Best way(s) for people to contact you/see your work?
You can contact me on Facebook or via email sergiacomogabriel[at]gmail[dot]com and you can also see my work over on Instagram. My website is currently in the beta and soon I will have a Bigcartel shop up with some cool stuff to sell.
