For many collectors, the  one-day, six-person Hyperstoic art show curated by Pushead is the highlight of the NYCC weekend. The standout exhibition opened on Saturday at Toy Tokyo Underground in the East Village. Hyperstoic features original artwork, prints, monographs, figures and more from Aaron Horkey, Usugrow, Wes Benscoter, LANGO,Brandon Holtand of course, Pushead.

The sheer amount  and level of work on display is impressive.  The walls are covered with original art and prints from each artist.  Graffiti and Tattoo artist Lango’s  two large-scale aerosol murals in vibrant red + black tones gracethe gallery.  One of many highlights in terms of prints has to be the new Pushead x Horkey collaboration, available in two different color treatments.

A large display case near the entrance is bound to be the focus for many sofubi collectors with an awesome array of new toys –- including never-before-seen sculpts and new editions of existing figures.   The case is full of exciting surprises including the full reveal of Itamu, Pushead’s re-interpretation of Hirota’s Mecha Gorilla Ju. First revealed at SDCC as a new head on the Mecha body, Itamu is actually a completely new scarred, wounded, and bandaged sculpt complete with a damaged right hand which hangs from exposed wiring.  Itamu is available in orange, blue, brown, and olive green editions.

Perhaps even more surprising than the reveal that Itamu is a completely new full sculpt, was the release of Pushead’s brand-new Snotblower (shown above).  The hyper-detailed, serpent-like figure is the artist’s first toy with Medicom since the famed KvP.

The toy goodness continues with a red, caped Skull Hevi, several Skull Captains, Pirates, a Siamese,  a wicked translucent marbled Evil Shit that really needs to be seen in person to truly appreciate the vision, a swirled Purple+White Kokuten-Sama from Usugrow, a milky King Gorilla Ju, a Pushead Nag + Nag ball and a Devilman.

Hyperstoic runs until 9 PM on Saturday (11.11) and will be talked about for quite some time.
