Gary Baseman will open his new solo, ‘Mythical Homeland’ at Shulamit Gallery in Venice on Saturday evening. The new show continues Baseman’s exploration of the once hidden reality of his parents’ homeland in Eastern Europe during WWII and also the multiple dimensions of ‘home’. Set in a forest both historical and metaphorical, the new allegorical paintings feature a full cast of Baseman’s characters both new and familiar and will be displayed in a birch forest installation within the gallery.
