NYC’s Bold Hype Gallery presented a selection of small-scale sculpture with the opening of ‘New Dimensions’ this past Thursday evening. Courtesy of John Wong, here’s a look at the show pieces from a strong artist roster featuring familiar talent including toy designers and pop surrealist artists: Colin Christian, Chet Zar, Martin Wittfooth, Chris Ryniak, Brian Despain, Jason Freeny, Andrew Bell, Doktor A, Amanda Spayd, Nicole Gastonguay and Douglas Hoffman. Enjoy the shots – there’s some great work here; futuristic, creepy, cute, humorous, a little something for nearly every taste.
This show demonstrates the power of context; displaying work that might very well be seen in a custom or toy exhibition alongside artists and work typically shown in established art galleries blurs the often artificial and detrimental distinction.
