Little by little, Dunny Azteca 2 is taking form. In addition to the three Christmas teaser photos, Kronikle just revealed The Beast Brothers’ elaborate design which incorporates a 3D headdress with plenty of sculpted detail. The 3D detail doesn’t stop at the headdress, notice the sculpted nose, ear detail, and ?tongue? The ‘weathering’ courtesy of light brown paint is a nice touch which gives the piece an appropriately ancient look.
It’s great to see Kidrobot pushing things forward with ‘Dunny’ designs fully realized through new sculpts rather than relying on flat deco. It’s an expensive path, but one that shows a clear intent on presenting artists’ vision without handcuffing them to the outlines of a time-proven shape. In doing so they are subtly blurring the lines between platform and OG toys [via Kronikle].
