Robert Lazzarini brings his fascination with twisted, deformed shapes to the KAWS Companion for what looks to be an excellent art toy. While it’s a bit hard to tell given the heavily deformed sculpt, it appears that this one is based on the Companion ‘99 rather than now current 5YL version. We’re big fans of this collaboration, having admired Lazzarini’s twisted weapon series (brass knuckles, knives and more) shown both at Honor Fraser in LA and more recently at OH Wow’s It Ain’t Fair during this year’s Art Basel Miami. The new sculpt brings an exciting interpretation to what is truly an iconic art toy. This new form is a great way to cap off ten years of the Companion.
This one drops next week from Original Fake in three colorways (mono, brown, and black) — each apparently limited to 1000 pieces with 14490 yen (~ $173). For those not living in Japan and without the necessary connections, KAWSone will drop the Lazzarini x KAWS Companions in January [Sources: KAWS and CrazyToyzLife].
