Tonight at ToyQube is the opening reception of “What A Fart”, new works by Hsin-Wei Hsu. I know most of you giggle at the word, us too. This might be one of the most interesting themed shows I ever heard of, which makes us all the more intrigued. Be sure to check out the show, because we are quite curious on what the art pieces will look like. Show begins at 7PM only at TQ. We leave you with a little more about the artist and his reasoning behind the theme of the show.

I am a Taiwanese artist, now living in New York City. I have been in NYC for three years; I have a MFA degree from the Pratt Institute, and now doing illustration projects.

In my recent work, farts are an important idea for me. Generally speaking, farts smell bad, so they are considered impolite and offensive. As a consequence, the author of the offending emission is embarrassed. Although farts are unpopular, every normal and healthy person farts five to ten times per day. Due to the shameful and embarrassing action, farts imply fun and ironic feelings; I realize that farts can be a very interesting subject to make people laugh. Also, farts are air, which has transparency and no shape; I am interested in drawing the invisible air into certain graphic patterns. Furthermore, I enjoy making biomorphic and psychedelic patterns, which involve graffiti and street cultural styles. Combining representational figures and graphic patterns
