First off, you might have noticed our u pdates are lagging.  The reason ? We’re abroad in Asia on our quest to bring you up-close coverage of toy news happening over here. The latest stop on our summer vinyl adventure is Hong Kong where one of our highlights is Disney’s impressive Bloc28 Mickey exhibition which opens tomorrow – Thursday, July 9th 2009 @ Times Square in Causeway Bay.

The exhibition celebrates different artist versions of Mickey  with the Bloc28 project and the release of the new  project figures  created by Tenga and Suiko and produced by MINDstyle, the Mickey Brand Halo custom show organized by 3Mix, and featured artist Dave Flores’s (above) impressive VCD Mickey in various forms.

Here’s a quick preview of the exhibition including the  two show installation areas shot  as workers made the last push to finish everything. Without even entering the Time Square indoor mall, passerbys  will be treated to a large outdoor installation featuring several giant-sized elements from the huge sculptures of Tenga and Suiko’s toys, to over-sized Mickey Hands and Feet sculptures.

Inside the mall awaits an even more impressive custom themed exhibition space featuring  paintings from the Bloc28 artists as well as the Mickey Bloc Halo customs nestled in a cool display system with individual ‘cages’ covered in wire mesh for a unique overall appearance. The interior space is packed with surprises at nearly every turn and vantage point including a  massive version of Dave Flores’s popular Mickey design in the front as well as a towering sculpture of Tenga’s second Bloc28 Mickey interpretation bursting out of a shipping container resting high above the show floor. Based on what we saw today, there’s simply too many clever features and elements to describe them all here in text.  So be sure to hit the jump for our pictures shot first hand in HK and also come back for coverage of Thursday’s VIP opening.
