After a well-planned teaser campaign and much speculation, Disney introduced D23, The Official Community for Disney Fans, earlier this week. The name is a reference to 1923, the year Walt Disney moved to Burbank and began his studio. Membership in D23 will provide collectors and Disney enthusiasts with the latest behind-the-scenes info via the twenty-three quarterly newsletter, access to member-only merchandise and collectibles, and access to D23 member-only events. The cost of a charter membership is $74.99
Equally exciting news is the announcement of the D23 Expo to be held September 10-13th 2009 @ the Anaheim Convention Center. The expo will feature everything Disney under one roof – from presentations and screenings to expo exclusive merchandise. D23 members will be able to purchase expo tickets at a discount.
